Crown reduction – treatment involves reducing a crown. It consists in shortening both, side branches and the tip of the tree, to give the trunk spherical or elliptical shape.
Properly performed treatment, according to Polish law, allows the tree crown to be reduced to the 25% by weight of assimilation apparatus (The act of 18th of August 2011 about the amendment to the Nature Conservation Act and certain other laws.
This treatment improves tree tripod, reduces the centre of gravity (diminish the risk of falling a tree during heavy winds), increases the amount of light reaching a tree base. This is particularly significant in small gardens, where smaller plants (shrubs or lawns) are gradually separated due to insufficient sunlight.
